Day 5 A Floor Plan!

The 5th Assignment was to create a floor plan. I've made mine in a scrap of kraft paper but you could make it digitally or any way you prefer.

The first thing I've noticed was that the room was smaller than I thought. I usually like to think that I'm good "taking measures with my eyes" but the lateral wall was smaller than I thought. The measures are in meters, the total area is circa 21, 50 square meters which translates into 231 square feet.

Those windows are like this:

One of the great things of actually doing the AT Style Cure instead of just doing it alone is to see problems other face, to get tips and get to know other houses. It was really surprising to visit the blog The Garçonniere who is also doing the cure and discover some many ressamblaces with my space! Like her windows from her French house!

The house is very ancient, some rooms have more than 500 years. As you can see the wall (all stone inside) are very thick which is very common in Portuguese antique houses. This is great because the rooms are not very cold in the Winter or hot in the Summer.

The door at the left is the entrance door and the right door leads to a very charming rustic backyard which is also in need of a three month cure ;D

I haven't put furniture on my floor plan yet because I'm still thinking what to do with some wood trunks and other pieces there were already in the room. The only thing I'm sure I won't move is the beautiful piano. (Even if I wanted...it's too heavy!). My older sister, who lives in Azores Island of Saint Michael is the one who plays the piano in our family.

Those washi tape bits you see on the drawing are the electrical sockets (is that the term?). I find it a very useful thing to add to your floor plan.

These are the spaces I need/want to have in the room:

Desk + printer and such
Shelves for shop inventory
Shelves for material and supplies
Table for photo shooting and wrapping
A comfortable place to sit and receive a guest
A nook to make tea/coffee/store the cookies

Talking about cookies, here are some pretend cookies for celebrating Autumn I've made with beans and herbs:

As the Portuguese poet Miguel Torga once said "In the autumn, the hills and valleys are covered in a carpet of copper and browns."

I wish it was Sun and not these rainny days during the cleaning and sorting, but the truth is Autumn and Winter is when I love my house the most!

See you in the next assignment! Bye, Rita
